In times like this, one’s true values show themselves.

It is a very tough time for a lot of people. And, unfortunately,  the research at Business Success Coach.net says it’s going to continue worsening.

In the US, 2.6 million jobs have been lost in the last 15 months.  We have a “true” unemployment rate of about 12% if you add the numbers reported by the Feds, with those who have fallen off the unemployment rolls and those who are working part time only because they can’t get a full time job.

Money’s tight.  Large bank failures will result in new regulations and possibly nationalization for those remaining.  Large retailers are closing their doors.

Headhunters and recruiters I know are getting flooded with resumes but at the same time, their client companies aren’t hiring.   I think those organizations, as well as many of my own clients, are over-reacting to the news; but it’s likely that we’re not going to see much change in the mindsets.

America, more than any other country perhaps, was founded by a group of dreamers.  Since 1776, it grew and matured based on the thoughts of the those original founding fathers.  I believe that many people have let go of their dreams and they’ve become too focused on the negatives in their lives.

This reminds me of ideas and concepts written about over 100 years by Elizabeth Towne, in her book, “The Life Power, and How to Use It“.  Her fundamental belief back then – during another very demanding period of America’s life – was that humans often act like magnets “attracting every action and thing that comes into our life”.

This thinking has of course many authors, the most recent books written on the concept include the best selling work, “The Secret”.  But Towne dug more deeply in my assessment.

I believe that her ideas are worth consideration during this period.  She also said that the first step to getting what you want out of life is to know clearly what you don’t want.  C G Jung, the acclaimed psychoanalyst wrote similar thoughts with his belief that we cannot move ahead until we face up to what’s holding us back, in effect saying that, “until we make our unconcious conscious, it will continue to hold us back.”

These words are as true today as they were back then.  Each of us, all of us, in all countries, need to face up to every limiting beliefs we hold.  To move ahead, it’s important to recognize that every individual can, as did the original American Dreamers who wrote the American Declaration of Independence, manifest  destiny.

Here’s to the future……
